It is time to build a bigger chest! We are going old school with this one, and we are going to do an Old School Bodybuilding Style Chest Workout for you men over 40. What makes this workout a bodybuilding style workout? Basically, you are adding more volume to the workout. We are going to be doing 5 different chest exercises, and we are going to do 16 total sets. The first exercise is going to be 4 total sets then the other exercises will be 3 sets of each. Now, let’s get started with the exercises in this chest workout to help you build more muscle as a man over 40.

Exercise #1: DUMBBELL BENCH PRESS. Get a nice deep stretch then squeeze your chest at the top of the movement. You do not need to lock out your elbows at the top of the movement, keep a slight bend in your elbows. Control the dumbbells throughout the whole range of motion, do not just drop the weight then push it up.

Exercise #2: DUMBBELL FLYES. Keep a slight bend in your elbows. Lower them below your back to get a nice deep stretch then squeeze your chest tight at the top of the contraction. It is important to make sure you get a deep stretch, while controlling the weight down to the bottom of the movement.

Exercise #3: DUMBBELL INCLINE PRESS. Use a 30 degree angle if you can on the bench, but no more than 45 degrees. Any more than that and you are working your shoulders more than you want to work your chest. Get a nice deep stretch at the bottom of the movement then drive the dumbbells straight up.

Exercise #4: CABLE FLYS. Keep a slight bend in your elbows throughout the entire range of motion, and hold the contraction at the top of the movement for a couple of seconds. You are really driving the handles together and squeezing the chest then getting a deep stretch at the bottom of the movement.

Exercise #5: PARALLEL BAR DIPS. You can do this with or without weights, depending on your fitness level and strength. Wider bars will focus more on your chest, and narrow bars will focus more on your triceps, so make sure you are using wide handles/bars. Control the movement and avoid using momentum during this exercise.
