When it comes to pre and post workout nutrition there are a lot of myths and misconceptions. And while this is certainly important, it’s not nearly as important as many people believe. Your overall nutrition and what you consume over the course of the day, day in and day out, is much more important than the specific foods you eat right before or after you workout.

You need to zoom out and look at the big picture of your overall diet, that is what will have the biggest impact on your long term results in the gym for building muscle and losing fat.

Now with that being said having a pre-workout meal is still important. It can help you to have a more productive workout in the gym.

I recommend eating something light and easy to digest about 1 hour before you workout. My personal favorite pre-workout meal is a protein shake and a piece of fruit. This provides easy to digest protein and easy to digest carbs that will not sit heavy on your stomach.

A big mistake that people make when eating a pre-workout meal is they eat too much, or eat foods that take a long time to break down and digest. This can leave you feeling full, bloated, and sluggish during your workout.

You just want a light meal to help control your appetite and provide some fast digesting nutrients that can go towards recovery and growth.
